The Scenic Rim is a region of great abundance. From the iconic Tamborine Mountain to beautiful Lake Moogerah, the rugged Mount Barney to the welcoming Boonah, the Scenic Rim is located just a short 80 kilometers from Brisbane and the Gold Coast. This stunning destination is a bustling hub with numerous outdoor pursuits to enjoy and stunning scenic landscapes to explore.   

The Scenic Rim is overflowing with ancient rainforests, historic national parks, charming towns and quaint villages, adventure activities, farm stays, craft breweries, locally grown and produced gourmet delights, boutique wineries, galleries, festivals, camping, glamping and so much more! Whether you’re young, old, adventuress or sophisticated – the Scenic Rim offers something for everyone!   

  

Get Outdoors 

If you fancy yourself as an adventure junkie then head out and explore everything that the great outdoors has to offer. There is an abundance of outdoor activities to experience right in our very own backyard.  

There are several picturesque hiking and bushwalking trails on offer which cater for the beginner right through to the more adventurous day/overnight hikes. The Scenic Rim also offers numerous fishing locations, a stunning golf course, quad biking, scenic flights, hot air ballooning, rock climbing, off-road four-wheel driving and horse riding. 

  

Hiking  

One of the best ways to explore this region is on foot. Rugged mountain ranges, spectacular lookouts and rare wildlife envelop the prestigious Gondwana Rainforests of Australia World Heritage Area Park. This experience can only be described as remarkable. The ancient, volcanic peaks of mounts French, Greville, Moon and Edwards are recognised for their unique shapes and are favourite bushwalking/hiking destinations for the intrepid. A mosaic of vegetation types inhabits the Main Range National Park along with beautiful waterholes, gorges, sheer cliffs, eucalypt forests, towering gums, seasonal lagoons, crystal clear creeks and cave formations.  

  

Fishing  

The Scenic Rim is a popular destination for fishing and boating. It is home to three dams – Maroon Dam in the south, Moogerah Dam in the west and the newer Wyaralong Dam, located between Boonah and Beaudesert.  

Moogerah Dam is located on Reynolds Creek which is a short 10 min drive from Boonah. Lake Moogerah permits the use of motor-powered boats. A true haven for waterskiing and jet skiing enthusiasts. It is also a popular fishing spot for die-hard anglers as well as being home to a number of scenic walks located in the nearby countryside. Picnics, BBQ’s, swimming and kayaking can also be enjoyed at this stunning location. 

  

Eat & Drink  

The Scenic Rim is home to an abundance of local restaurants and cafes. There are several regional country markets to navigate your way through, breweries (local craft beer), award winning wineries, country pubs, gourmet delis and five-star gourmet restaurants just to mention a few. 

The surrounding area is home to hard-working farmers, artisan food producers as well as brewers, distillers, cheese and wine makers. Many of their mouthwatering products can be purchased locally.

Stop and Shop or Sightsee   

The Scenic Rim is also home to a number of boutique shops, art galleries, venues, and historical sites. There is no shortage of unique homeware stores where you can purchase that perfect gift for those who have everything or a stunning one-off design - a definite must have! The Boonah Art Gallery showcases some spectacular designs and amazing pieces from local artists. If you are interested in the history of the local area, then the historic Wiss Emporium is well worth a visit. Today, it is a heritage-listed shopping centre crammed with character features, where you can experience a moment of Queensland’s past and colourful history. It is a landmark building in Kalbar and attracts interest from afar. Constructed in 1909 for Lionel Ainger Wiss, it was crafted from quality local timber directly logged from the original surrounding forest.
